We commonly get asked if TopCoat® F11® or TopCoat® F11PRO® can be used on Paint Protection Films (PPF). To quickly answer if you can use TopCoat® F11® and TopCoat® F11PRO® on PPF, yes you can, and we highly recommend it for many reasons over using other inferior sealant products.
Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a transparent urethane material that can be applied to any exterior painted surface on your vehicle. PPF essentially acts as a barrier between your vehicle paint and elements or light physical objects that may hit your vehicle, such as small rocks, bugs, dirt, and other road debris. PPF has long been a highlight of the automotive detailing and customization market to help preserve and protect your vehicle’s paint and sometimes prevent rock chips, hard water spots, deposits, oxidation, swirl marks, and many other elements.
PPF is usually only as good as the installer, which usually requires a professional to install, taking several hours or as long as a full day. While PPF is great in many aspects, it doesn’t stay clean and still can attract dust, dirt, grime, road debris, and other elements. Moreover, some paint protection films can turn to unsightly colors over time, dull, peel off, collect dirt in the seams, or deteriorate over time. Not to mention, PPF installation costs thousands of dollars, and you’ll want to protect and prolong this expensive investment.
Surprisingly, PPF usually requires cleaning through a vehicle wash and then having the proper protection or sealant applied to help keep the PPF clean longer and prevent premature damage from UV exposure and harsh elements encountered on the road.
Sometimes, vehicle detailers prefer to ceramic coat PPF, which may benefit to keep the surface of the PPF clean and resist water through the hydrophobic properties of ceramic coatings. However, the application of most ceramic coatings to PPF requires a professional adding to the cost of installing the PPF, which may rack up a bill of several thousands of dollars.
The save you time and money in protecting your PPF, TopCoat® F11® or TopCoat® F11PRO® can be used to safely coat your PPF by creating a hydrophobic barrier that resists water, dirt, dust, grime, road debris, and other elements. You must know that paint protection films are easily susceptible of being damaged and there are many sealants on the market that may cause damage to your PPF because they have harsh chemicals, solvents, VOCs (volatile organic compounds), acids, or unknown chemicals that react to the PPF. In those cases, inferior sealants may scratch, etch, or even discolor or dull PPF. Best of all, TopCoat® F11PRO® is a functional ceramic that can be applied by virtually anyone without costing thousands of dollars and requiring a professional detailer to apply.
As one of the safest sealants on the market, TopCoat® F11® and TopCoat® F11PRO® can be safely used on PPF without the risk of causing damage. Additionally, applying TopCoat® F11® or TopCoat® F11PRO® will help protect your PPF for 12+ months by applying the same breakthrough technologies that apply when using TopCoat® F11® or TopCoat® F11PRO® directly on a vehicle’s clearcoat or paint. These technologies, such as self-healing tech, MycroGlide tech, H2O-SiO2 tech, self-leveling tech, and more, all apply to help the detailing and protection process of PPF using TopCoat® F11® or TopCoat® F11PRO®.
TopCoat® F11® or TopCoat® F11PRO® will enhance your PPF to help keep the film clean, thus lasting longer and helping prevent premature damage. Remember, damaging your PPF with a harsh chemical may void your PPF warranty and could end up costing you additional thousands of dollars to reapply PPF.
TopCoat® F11® and TopCoat® F11PRO® are specially formulated to be eco-friendly and are water-based, void of any solvents, harsh abrasives, VOCs, or unknown chemicals that may be found in inferior products. With TopCoat products being exclusively made in America and having over two decades of research and development backing the formulation of TopCoat® F11® and TopCoat® F11PRO®, you can be assured that they are safe for any PPF applied on your vehicle.
Pro Tip: Many professional detailers recommend utilizing a sealant of some type for your PPF. Just because you have PPF on your vehicle does not mean that you can neglect cleaning and protecting the film because it may easily become damaged over time if it is not properly cared for – even more so than your paint or clear coat because it is not as durable. Lastly, the lifespan of PPF is limited, often lasting up to 5 years when it should be replaced or you risk having a serious mess, having a hard time removing it, or worst, causing damage to your paint and clear coat.
