Many times, we hear the term “self-healing” thrown around for various products from your paint protection films to protective spray-on coatings, and even for some clear coat paint applications. In most cases, a true self-healing product can repair sustained damage on its own or with outside stimulation to fill in small scratches, swirl marks, and help protect those imperfections from further damage or becoming contaminated from the outdoor elements.
Commonly, self-healing coatings are used in an automotive finish or clear-coat formulations that may hide or remove imperfections once they are stimulated by either the sunlight or the application of heat from something like a small blow torch. In other cases, self-healing formulations in spray-on coatings contain healing properties to heal both fine surface scratches and microscopic damage. Microscopic damage is usually confined to micro-cracks or cavitation where the surface is slightly pierced but the use of a product with self-healing properties will fill in those imperfections. Some may notice microscopic damages to the painted surface with their naked eye. However, some microscopic damage may be unseen and later makes itself visible if it is never repaired or treated with a self-healing formulation, or properly protected with a sealant. Fortunately, there are products like TopCoat® F11®, which is a multi-purpose sealer that coats, restores, and protects all surfaces that also includes self-healing technology.
TopCoat® F11® Combines a Multi-Use Sealer with Self-Healing Technology in One Product!
TopCoat® F11® has self-healing properties using fluid wetting to repair imperfections. Fundamentally, TopCoat® F11® may be used to fill in small scratches or through its self-leveling technology that’s activated by the sun it may regenerate the coating, so it fills in the micro-scratches on a multitude of surfaces.
Self-healing technology is nothing new. For countless years, self-healing technology has been successfully used in many forms with the easiest to apply being products like TopCoat® F11®, which combines many. However, many self-healing products may use different layers, such as polymer, silica-organic, metallic, or ceramic layers. Many of the different self-healing layer types respond to mechanical or chemical damage to reproduce their original properties, hence fill-in imperfections or micro-scratches.
Use of TopCoat® F11® on something like your vehicle will give not only give you the benefit of self-healing technology but it contains hydrophobic properties as well to help repel water, dirt, and grime from adhering to the treated surface. Combined with self-healing technology the surface treated with TopCoat® F11® improves the surface for a wetting effect that makes it look better than it did before. Moreover, TopCoat® F11® can be applied to matte surfaces or semi-glass finishes where the surface gets the same benefit of its self-healing technology.
The activation of TopCoat® F11®’s self-healing technology simply takes place upon application. There is no need to further stimulate TopCoat® F11® for its self-healing properties to take effect.
Can Self-Healing Technology Work to Mask Scratches or Swirls?
Through self-healing technology, products like TopCoat® F11® ultimately restores and masks finish imperfections. Microscopic cracks and scratches are filled in thus preventing them from collecting dirt and help prevent future corrosion. Even those annoying swirl marks are masked and maintained through TopCoat® F11®’s self-healing technology that is activated upon application to a cleaned and prepped surface.
Probably the best characteristic of TopCoat® F11® in having self-healing technology is that it remains to be an eco-friendly, water-based formula that does not contain any solvents or harsh abrasives. There are many products on the current market that tout self-healing technology but are not safe for the environment and have other harsh chemicals that may become abrasive and could cause more harm than good for the treatment of some surfaces.
