What Is SiO2 in TopCoat® F11PRO® and What Does It Do?

Often enough detailing and protectant products, such as ceramic coatings, sealants, and other chemicals commonly used by professional detailers claim that their products use SiO2 technology. In many products, SiO2 provides many unseen benefits for the protection of a surface or material that it is applied to. In a nutshell, products that have SiO2 technology are far superior to others that lack such protections because they create a natural protective layer to help resist harmful elements, thus keeping the surface clean and protected.

What is SiO2?

SiO2 is a silicon oxide made up of a linear structure somewhat like CO2. SiO2 is found in nature as quartz in many living organisms made up of silica (Si) and two oxide (O2 - Oxygen) molecules. SiO2 technology is commonly overlooked and often thought to only be included in ceramic coatings. Contrary to misleading marketing ploys, SiO2 is becoming a popular element found in products beyond ceramic coatings, combining the fundamentals of SiO2 being a natural chemical mix of silicon and oxygen.

The form of SiO2 used in products like TopCoat® F11PRO® is hydrophobic silica that leaves a protective hydrophobic coating that is resistant to many elements, like water for starters. Just like quartz, SiO2 chemicals provide a hardened protective layer or surface tension that causes water to bead in tight bubbles, which is part of the very definition of being hydrophobic. Bonded SiO2 nanoparticles are safe to stick to many surfaces preventing the penetration of water or other elements, thus keeping elements from sticking to the surface, which is why you see water beading and running off properly treated surfaces. Think of SiO2 as being a microscopic protective clear raincoat for many types of surfaces that may also enhance the depth, color, and shine at the same time.

How Does SiO2 Work in TopCoat® F11PRO® and How Does It Benefit You?

Many times, the use of SiO2 is said to be superior or a huge benefit in the use of a product versus one that does not contain SiO2 technology, and such a statement is true. However, SiO2, which is fundamentally silica dioxide found in nature as quartz, use of SiO2 in some products could be misleading or a misused marketing term.

The fact of the matter, products that use a true form of SiO2, like TopCoat® F11PRO®, provide a slick surface based on molecules of silicon dioxide that’s hardened and naturally provide a barrier between the environment and the surface that the product is applied to. Products that have SiO2 will form a barrier that rejects water, dirt, abrasion, microbes, solvents, U.V. light, and many other potentially damaging elements, which is the basis of the protections that TopCoat® F11PRO® provides.

Don’t be fooled by inferior products, even some ceramics, claiming to have SiO2 technology or use a form of SiO2. TopCoat® F11PRO® is revolutionary in the industry as it is a multipurpose sealant and functional ceramic that can be safely and easily used in a simple two-step process of spraying and buffing the product on countless surfaces just like millions of done with our original TopCoat® F11®. There is no need for a detailing professional to apply TopCoat F11PRO. Simply put, YOU are the PRO no matter your experience level of detailing or applying sealant products. TopCoat® F11PRO® is safe and easy to apply for everyone!

The effect of SiO2 technology in TopCoat® F11PRO® helps its protective and hydrophobic properties last for a year or more. Ultimately, the use of TopCoat® F11PRO® will lessen paint or surface damage caused by many elements, such as rainwater, dried water, dirt, debris, road grime, and many other components found in the natural environment. The benefit of applying TopCoat® F11PRO® is that it can be used on a variety of surfaces, not just clear coat painted surfaces where they all greatly benefit from the SiO2 technology found in TopCoat® F11PRO®.
